SILVA

Inspired by a simple question—how can technology bring children back to nature instead of pulling them away—Silva creates AI companions from leaves, stones, water, and soil, encouraging children to explore, imagine, play, and build meaningful connections with the natural world.

Research

79% of parents are concerned about their children's screen time.

Technology is often seen as something children should avoid.
Technology itself is not the problem.
Its impact depends on how it is designed and used.

“Technology is not the enemy of nature. It can be the bridge back to it.”

Pain Points

Physical Health

Parents worry that excessive screen use may lead to vision problems, reduced physical activity, and
poor posture.

Mental Health

Digital media may contribute to attention issues, virtual dependency, and reduced engagement with the real world.

Child Development

Many families worry that digital experiences replace meaningful exploration, creativity, and
real-world learning.

Design Statement

Technology is often perceived as something that separates children from nature.
I believe technology itself is not the problem. It is a powerful medium whose impact depends entirely on
how it is designed and used.
Through Silva, I challenge the assumption that technology and nature are opposites, exploring how digital experiences can become a bridge that reconnects children with the natural world.

Why Silva?

Digital Engagement

Children are naturally attracted to interactive digital experiences.
Digital systems provide immediate feedback, motivation, and

long-term engagement.

──────→

Story-Driven Exploration

Stories and characters transform exploration into meaningful adventures.
Children are more likely to engage when learning is connected to imagination and discovery.

──────→

Real-World Connection

Nature offers sensory experiences that cannot be replicated through
screens alone.
Outdoor exploration supports creativity, curiosity, and environmental awareness.

Silva combines the engagement of digital play with the richness of real-world exploration, transforming
technology from a distraction into a bridge between children and nature.

How the Core Connects
with Components

≫

Form Development

≫

Designing for nature meant designing for uncertainty.
Natural materials such as branches, leaves, and stones rarely conform to a single size or shape. To accommodate this variability, I explored multiple connection strategies and attachment geometries through iterative sketching and prototyping.
The final connector system allows children to easily combine diverse natural elements with the creature core, transforming found objects into personalized companions while preserving flexibility, durability, and ease of assembly.

Concept

Silva Ecosystem

Silva combines physical creation, AI-generated storytelling, outdoor exploration, and ecological education into a single play experience. Rather than replacing nature, technology becomes a bridge that encourages children to engage with and care for the natural world.

──────

───

AI Recognition

Scan the physical creature to generate its
digital identity.

──────

───

Ecological Investigation

Creatures detect environmental disturbances and unlock ecological investigation quests.

───

Build Your Creature

Combine collected materials with the Creature Core to build a unique physical companion.

───

Outdoor Exploration

Complete outdoor exploration missions together with
your creature.

───

Nature Exploration

Collect leaves, branches, flowers, stones, and other natural materials during outdoor exploration.

Creature Awakening

───

──────

The system generates a unique name, personality, abilities, and backstory based on the assembled creature.

───

──────

Restore Balance

Solve environmental challenges and restore balance to the natural world.

World Building

From Screen Time to Nature Play

Silva began with a simple question:
What if technology wasn't the problem—but part of the solution?

Instead of replacing screens, Silva transforms them into a bridge between children and nature. By combining physical exploration, creative construction, and AI-powered interaction, the experience encourages children to discover the outdoors, imagine their own creatures, and build meaningful memories together.
